Glaucoma

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, which can lead to irreversible vision loss if untreated. The condition is often linked to high intraocular pressure (IOP) but can also occur without elevated IOP.

Common Symptoms

In the early stages, glaucoma is often symptomless. As the disease progresses, people may notice blind spots in their peripheral vision. Without treatment, glaucoma can lead to complete vision loss.

Treatment Options

Clariti offers several effective treatments for glaucoma, depending on the stage and type of glaucoma. Common treatments include:

Laser Therapy

Procedures like SLT (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty) can improve fluid drainage. SLT is now the first line treatment for patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Prescription Eye Drops

These help lower eye pressure.

Surgery

In severe cases, surgery may be needed to create a new drainage path.

Glaucoma FAQs

Glaucoma cannot be cured, but early treatment can slow or prevent vision loss.

With proper treatment, many patients maintain useful vision throughout their lives.

Family history is a risk factor, so if you have relatives with glaucoma, regular screenings are essential.
